Bulletin Board POLKA DOTS "I Can" Statement Cards {TSG Head Start Pre-K}

Thanks for your interest in my Polka Dots Bulletin Board “I Can” Statements. Simply print them & post throughout your classroom. They also work well in pocket charts & on traveling tri-fold boards!

These cards were created to help families decode and make connections with early learning standards used in most early childhood settings. The cards let everyone know what it might look like when standards are met by a child, and the color coded background helps keep the standards categorized.

I created similar charts for my classroom several years ago and utilized the information in a variety of preschool , pre-k, and Head Start settings. This school year, I created these cards for my bulletin board and could not wait to share it with other teachers out there! I hope you (and your families) find these cards as useful as I do!

Check out my Student Portfolios HERE! The also align with early learning standards.

Areas in My Play-Based Classroom Pre-K & Head Start Parent Information Packet

Thanks for your interest in my Areas in My Play-Based Classroom PacketSimply print the info pages and include them in your new student information packets, post them throughout your classroom, and add them to each student’s development portfolio.

Click to preview and purchase this packet!

The following pages were created to help paint a portrait for adults who might be unaware of what a hands-on, play-based pre-k setting looks like. When they are able to connect the value of play with academic characteristics, they have a much better understanding of why we do what we do at the pre-k level.

I created this packet for my classroom many years ago. I have utilized these information sheets year after year in a variety of preschool , pre-k, and Head Start settings. I hope you (and your families) find these pages as useful as I do!

Emotions Memory Game {PK-1} Social-Emotional Development

Thanks for your interest in my Emotions Memory Game. This game is perfect to use throughout the school year. (I have found it to be especially helpful at the first of the year.) This game helps teach children words that enable them to better express their feelings! Great for grades Preschool - 1st, as well as multiple ages of children with special needs.

Print 2 copies of each page containing word cards, cut along dotted lines, and laminate. (Choose the cards that best fit the needs of your students.) Turn cards upside down. Students flip cards over, one at a time, until they make a match! Students can keep track of their matching sets by coloring in or writing each emotion word as they play; five differentiated recording sheets included!

A few other ways I like to use the cards...
{Tip 1} Create a classroom mini book with these cards by printing one copy, cutting along the dotted lines, and placing inside of a 4x6 “brag book” style photo album.

{Tip 2} Create a flip ring to keep near your group meeting or guided reading station. Print, trim, laminate, punch a hole in the upper left corner of each card, and insert a book ring.

These cards can also be used in so many other ways. Be creative & shoot me an email letting me know how you are using them in your classroom.

These colorful cards make sight word assessment more like a fun game! Print a copy of the sight word cards, trim them, laminate, and use the set with each student. Print enough assessment pages for your class. (I keep mine in my student portfolio binders.) Students read through the apple sight word cards, and you keep track of it all on the recording sheet included in this packet. Color or mark the boxes with a highlighter for the proper assessment period column. It’s easier to read in the long run if you use a different color highlighter each assessment period. (I use blue for 1, yellow for 2, and green for 3.) Whether you mark words that are correct or incorrect is up to you. (I mark correct words because I believe it builds self-esteem and confidence!)

These cards are also part of my FREE Apple Sight Word Memory Game, and can also be used in so many other ways. Be creative & shoot me an email letting me know how you are using them in your classroom.

Pumpkin Seed Count & Match File Folder Game

Thanks for your interest in my Pumpkin Seed Count & Match File Folder Game

Click to preview & purchase Pumpkin Seed Count & Match packet.

Students will use the game pieces to play the game by counting the pumpkin seeds in each ten frame and matching one number card per ten frame on the game mat.

{Tip 1} Want to switch things up a bit? Instead of game pieces, you could easily use real pumpkin seeds, buttons, or other small manipulatives for students to place on each pumpkin seed as they count.

{Tip 2} If game pieces are ending up everywhere but the file folder game mat, try placing the game on a large tray or cookie sheet instead. That usually does the trick for students unable to figure out space boundaries on their own.

This style of chart works well in my classroom because I can move it around (off the wall) as needed. When it comes time to store the chart, it can easily be tucked inside a file box or cabinet.

Assembly is super simple:
• Print the alphabet pages that feature the colorful border you like best, laminate them, and use double face tap to adhere them to a file folder. A-N on one side and O-Z on the other side of the file folder (see photo on next page).
• Label the file folder tab with the label provided.
• Hang in your classroom literacy center!

I hope your students love signing alphabet letters as much as mine do!  You can check out all of my ASL materials by clicking HERE!

Monthly Self Portrait & Handwriting Assessment Recording Sheets

Thanks for your interest in my no prep Monthly Name Writing & Self Portrait Recording Sheets. There are two formats to choose from, and with no year stamp on the pages, this is a packet that can be used year after year.

Click to preview this packet and purchase.

Students will write their name on the writing lines and create a self portrait in the picture frame or box.

{Tip 1} These recording sheets could be used for monthly developmental growth assessment purposes.

{Tip 2} I keep a copy of each student’s recording sheet in their file so I can easily flip through and see what skill needs to be targeted, as well as exactly where growth has taken place.

{Tip 3} Add pages to student portfolios to show growth. It’s really amazing to see how quickly fine motor skills progress month to month. Parents love seeing this growth during conferences!

{Tip 4} I also like to show students their work from previous months! They enjoy seeing their own growth as much as I do. I wait to do this until after the current month is complete. My goal is not to remind them of needed improvement(s). It is simply to let them know I appreciate their hard work.

The picture frame / icon version of these recording sheets are included in my Student Portfolio Packets

Fall Words Build It, Stamp It, Write It Packets {D'Nealian & Zaner-Bloser}

Fall is right around the corner, and I want to be ready for classroom success with an updated version of my Build It, Stamp It, Write It packets!  Yesterday, I reintroduced my Birthday Words and Back To School Words packets, in both D'Nealian and Zaner-Bloser handwriting.  At only $2.00 per packet, these seasonal, hands-on word work printables are sure to add a bunch of affordable fun in your writing / literacy center.

To wrap up this glorious summer week, I have more fall to bring your way!  I am reintroducing my Fall Build It, Stamp It, Write It packets with D'Nealian and Zaner-Bloser handwriting prompts.

Click here to preview and purchase my Fall BSW Packet.

Click here to preview and purchase my Fall BSW Packet.

This packet features:
- 17 fall related words
- available with either Zaner-Bloser or D'Nealian handwriting prompts
- hands-on approach to working and learning

These BSW packets are an essential part of what I do in the classroom!  Early in the year, especially with youngest of Pre-K students, I have children take on one portion of each sheet at a time.  Their choice, not mine!  They choose whether they would like to build with magnet letters, stamp with alphabet stamps, or write with whatever color market they choose.  I've even had students choose to color the picture the first day.  Hey, whatever gets them warmed up to the writing process!

These packets offer a world of opportunity for me.  With these, I teach children how to use the alphabet stamps, hold a pencil, and sort through alphabet magnets quickly.  It's a process; especially with pre-k kiddos!  However, by the end of the year, they enjoy the routine of learning new words....with a familiar pattern.

Heather Cacak

Build It, Stamp It, Write It BIRTHDAY Words Packets {D'Nealian & Zaner-Bloser}

Click HERE for D'Nealian Preview or Click HERE for Zaner-Bloser Preview

Simply print the pages you need for your writing center. Students build words with magnetic alphabet letters, stamp words with alphabet stamps, and trace/write words with directional handwriting prompts.

These packets create an amazing way to create individualized curriculum for the needs of each child – even for older children developmentally behind in learning and mastering this set of skills. I hope your students love practicing writing as much as mine do!

{Tip} Don’t have alphabet stamps? No problem! Students can get creative and either write in the appropriate letter or fill the space with alphabet tiles.

Bright Blessings,
Heather Cacak

This download includes:
- 12 story sequence / character cards
- 12 numeral and 12 ordinal cards
- 11 arrow cards for story retelling direction
- 2 title cards (one color, one b/w)
- 1 author card
- 1 illustrator card

Simply print pages 4 - 10, cut around each card, laminate them, and have students retell the sequence of events that take place during the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? For this story, I added direction arrows. My students really love choosing an arrow that points to the character card they are in charge of picking. {Tip: I place adhesive business card magnets to the back of my cards. Doing so helps me create a really fun whole group, small group, or individual center activity utilizing my magnet board.}

I read book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to my class over and over throughout the week. Once children are familiar with the text and images, I use the sequence cards as an engaging and interactive math activity. My students take great pride in retelling the story through sequencing. I hope your students looooove these cards as much as mine do.

Tips: You can extend the activity by using the black and white pages (on plain copy paper) as game mats and have students color the apples after making matches. It would also make a fun "write the room" activity, using black and white copies as recording sheets, and having students color in the pumpkins and/or write color names as they find game pieces throughout the room! So many possibilities!

I created this portfolio for my classroom many years ago. While teaching for Head Start, I added standards and checkpoints used in TS Gold, which focuses on areas of development (social-emotional, physical, and cognitive) and language development. I have utilized my portfolio template year after year in a variety of preschool & pre-k settings, customizing it to meet the needs of my families and school when needed.

With over 70 printable pages to choose from, and 25 editable pages to customize, you have the ability to create a binder portfolio that is A) purely work samples (evidence of growth), B) work samples with information pages that support the work you do in the classroom, or C) a mix of both.

Bright Blessings,
Heather Cacak

***Please note, this is not an assessment packet. Assessment forms are NOT included in this packet. However, there is room to add your district's assessments inside each student's portfolio.***

No Prep B&W Version:
Black & white pages can be printed & used as counting mats, recording sheets, and coloring sheets for fast finishers.  I also use black & white copies as counting/number assessments.

Low Prep Color Version:
Print the counting mat pages (choose color or black and white) and laminate. For hands-on counting, use red and green puff-pom balls as “apples”. (Any small manipulative will do, really.)

{Tip: If puff-pom balls are ending up everywhere but the mat, try placing the mat(s) on a large fast food/restaurant tray or cookie sheet for each student. That usually does the trick for students unable to figure out space boundaries on their own.}
